Dr. Alfred L. Broz
Chief Scientist, Technical Advisor, Nondestructive Evaluation, FAA
and a Member of ASNT, National Board of Directors

Fluorescent Penetrant Inspection Applications and Process Control

About the Speaker:

Dr. Broz has been involved in Nondestructive Evaluation (NDE) for over 25 years and has participated in the Federal Aviation Administration’s (FAA) National Resource Specialist Program since July 1990. He is an internationally known expert in NDE and has consulted on and reviewed Nondestructive Evaluation programs, projects and processes for private industry, the aviation industry, manufacturers, academia and various government agencies, including the National Transportation Safety Board.

Prior to his transfer to the FAA, Dr. Broz spent fifteen years as a civilian with the Army in NDE. His most recent position in the Army was at the Army Materials Technology Laboratory, MTL, Watertown, MA, as the Chief of the Materials Testing and Evaluation Branch. “Watertown Arsenal” was home to one of the founders of what is now the American Society for Nondestructive Testing (ASNT), and to Dr. Horace Henry Lester, for which the ASNT bi-annual Lester Honor Lecture is named. While at MTL, Dr. Broz helped initiate and participated in the White House Committee on Materials and Technology Ad-Hoc Group on NDE. He helped manage the Nondestructive Testing Information Analysis Center (NTIAC) contract, and the coordination of international defense related NDE activities. The Army’s Training and Certification Program for NDT Inspectors was under his management, providing training for over 1000 students per year, and maintaining the Qualification Records for over 3000 Army NDT Inspectors. He also participated in the Department of Defense’s (DoD) NDT Standardization Program, managed by the Army for DoD. While at Watertown, Dr. Broz consulted for the Office of Technology Assessment (OTA) on NDE for Advanced Materials.

Dr. Broz has had a leading role in the establishment of the technical content of existing FAA Research and Development Inspection Efforts, and continues to provide oversight credibility for the efforts.

Dr. Broz received his formal education in Physics and holds a Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame and Certification Lead at Lockheed Martin Astronautics in Waterton, Colorado.
