Eddy Current Monitoring of
"The Effects of Top of Rail Materials and Rail Grinding on Head Hardened Rail"
Speaker: Dr. Mark Richards, Research Metallurgist at EVRAZ North America-Pueblo.

Program:

Dr. Richards will present an overview of studies performed on materials used in top of rail lubrication and their influence on rolling contact fatigue (RCF) using a twin disc laboratory tribometer. Mark will present results of RCF initiation and growth as monitored using an eddy current approach.

About the Speaker:

Dr. Richards is a research metallurgist at EVRAZ North America in the Long Products Division, focusing on product development and process improvement efforts for rail and rod/bar products. Mark received his B.Sc. and Ph.D. in Metallurgical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines. Mark was awarded the distinguished American Iron and Steel Institute Medal for 2013 for his Ph.D. research. Previous to joining EVRAZ, Mark performed research at the National Institute of Standards and Technology in Boulder, CO as part of a National Research Council fellowship.
